Frequently Asked Questions
What does it cost to attend?
There is no tuition fee for New Hampshire residents.
State of NH Charter School Funding alone IS NOT enough to fund the education we all want for our children at Northeast Woodland. State Funding for the 2022-2023 will be $7,339 per student but our actual per-pupil expenses for the 21/22 school year were $8,900 and that cost increases every year.
During our enrollment period, the school humbly asks families to consider making a tax-deductible sustaining contribution. While there is no tuition we do encourage parents to support our school by participating in our school’s community with their involvement in a committee and/or a sustaining enrollment contribution.
How will my child transition into a Waldorf classroom if they are coming from a traditional public school?
Students who transfer to a Northeast Woodland classroom from a more traditional public school will typically be up to grade in basic academic skills, and have minimal problems adjusting academically. Those entering in the middle school classrooms may need to take extra time to come up to classroom level with music or world language, for example. We will support those students and work with them to find the best way to help them integrate into the classroom level. We find that a majority of students new to a Waldorf education model do embrace this artistic style of learning with excitement and enthusiasm regardless of grade level. For more information on transitioning from a traditional public school to a Waldorf inspired classroom please check out our Classroom Transition page.
What is the difference between a private and a Chartered Public Waldorf school?
The major difference is cost to families. As a State of NH chartered public school, Northeast Woodland is tuition-free for New Hampshire residents. There are minor differences in curriculum and assessment as well to ensure that chartered public school meets all State of NH educational requirements. Please visit the Alliance For Public Waldorf page and the Curriculum page for more detailed information.
Do you be offer before/ aftercare?
Yes we offer an aftercare program please inquire for more details regarding the costs and program offering.
I live in Maine can my kids attend?
Yes! Maine students can enroll and attend as long as there is space available. Unfortunately, Maine students will be required to pay tuition as the State of NH will not cover that cost for out-of-state students. The State of NH also requires that New Hampshire students receive first priority for available space in the school - therefore, we encourage Maine families to apply early to have a first crack at available space. The tuition for Maine resident students for the 2022-2023 school year will be $9000.
How does enrollment/lottery work?
Please check out our enrollment/lottery page for more details.
All applications received before the enrollment deadline will be reviewed for completeness. If the number of qualified applications is greater than the number of available spaces, a lottery will be held from all qualified applications to fill the available spaces. Qualified applications not receiving an available space will be put on a waiting list in order of the date the application was received. As space becomes available, it will be offered to the first qualified applicant on the wait list. If, after the enrollment deadline passes, space is still available, qualified applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until all spaces are filled. Once enrolled at Northeast Woodland, you are guaranteed your spot to return each year. Siblings of current students will receive priority in lotteries.
